What is Carbon Raiser?

Carbon Raiser,a carbon-containing substance added to supplement the carbon content burned during the smelting process of steel is called Carbon Raiser.

During the smelting process of steel products,due to the long smelting time and heat preservation time,the carbon content in the molten iron may be lost significantly,resulting in a reduction in the carbon content in the molten iron and failing to reach the expected theoretical value for steelmaking.To compensate for this loss in carbon content,carburizers are added.

The main function of carburizer

1.Compensate the carbon content lost during the steel smelting process and increase the carbon content in the molten iron.

2.Enhance the nucleation ability of molten iron,refine the grains,and improve the mechanical properties such as tensile strength,hardness,wear resistance and fatigue limit of castings.

3.Improve the distribution of carbon and alloy elements in the cast metal,make the structure in the casting dense and uniform in composition,and eliminate the segregation phenomenon produced during the casting process.

4.Reduce the amount of slag generated,simplify slag removal operations,and improve casting efficiency.

5.Improve the fluidity of molten metal,stabilize the composition of molten iron,and prevent segregation.

6.After use,it can significantly reduce the white chip phenomenon,improve cutting performance,and improve mechanical properties.

Types of carburizers

1.Petroleum coke carburizer

It is processed by calcining and purifying petroleum coke and has a round or polygonal appearance.It is an ideal carbon-added material and reaction intermediate in metallurgy,chemical industry,machinery,electric power and other industries,and is widely used.

2.Metallurgical coke carburizer

Coke can usually be used in cupola furnaces.In addition to smelting,its role is also studied as carbon is used as different metal charges.

3.Calcined coal carburizer

Mainly produced in Shizuishan,Ningxia and Wuhai,Inner Mongolia.The general composition is c90-90%,s0.3-0.5%.It is mainly used by steel-making enterprises,and some casting enterprises use it for gray cast iron.

4.Graphitized Carbon Raiser

The main production areas include Shandong,Henan,etc.The main materials are graphitized petroleum coke and graphitized electrodes.The general composition is carbon content 98-90%;sulfur 0.05-0.03%.Mainly used for ductile iron.It is characterized by fast absorption,high carbon content and low sulfur content.

5.Natural graphitized carburizer

Mainly natural graphite,with a carbon content of 65%-90%.It is mainly used in steel mills,not foundries.
